MS house
Casa MS is the story of a radical transformation, a recovery project that has given new life to a 110 square metre flat located in the privileged front row of the sea in Lido di Fermo. The vision of a young New York couple, eager for a retreat that reflected their love of clean aesthetics and natural materials, took shape through a bold and meticulous intervention.
tabula rasa: from demolition to a new spatial vision.
The starting point was a complete reset of the existing space. The total demolition of partitions and screeds represented an act of liberation, a blank sheet of paper on which to draw a new concept of living. This radical operation made it possible to completely rethink the distribution of the rooms, opening the way to innovative and functional solutions.
a continuous dialogue with the outside world: the solar greenhouse as the connective heart.
The distinctive element of the project is undoubtedly the total opening of the west front. By demolishing the entire perimeter wall, an opening was created that allowed for the insertion of a spectacular solar greenhouse with a minimal glazing of no less than 8 metres. This design choice not only floods the interior with natural light, but also establishes a visual and conceptual connection with the surrounding Fermo countryside, creating a sense of continuity between the interior and exterior. The solar greenhouse thus becomes a light filter, a transitional space that amplifies the perception of space and offers a priceless view of the landscape. An intervention of this magnitude could not be done without a complete overhaul of all installations, thus guaranteeing a modern, efficient and safe home. This attention to technical detail is essential to ensure living comfort and durability.
open-plan living: an interplay of volume and functionality.
The living area is configured as a large dynamic open space, characterised by two different floor levels, dictated by the pre-existence of the terrace at a higher level than the interior. This architectural peculiarity has been turned into a distinctive design element, creating movement and visually defining the different functional areas. In the centre of the scene, an island with integrated kitchen columns fulfils multiple functions, cleverly incorporating storage and laundry, optimising space without sacrificing aesthetics. The sleeping area houses three bedrooms, conceived as refuges of tranquillity and well-being. The choice of natural materials and attention to light create serene and cosy environments, in line with the overall design philosophy.
a material thread: resin cement and chromatic warmth.
The choice of resin cement for flooring is a key element in defining the style of the home. Its continuous, textured surface gives a sense of modernity and minimalism, while creating a neutral base that enhances the richness of the details and furnishings. The colour palette shifts to warm, embracing tones inspired by the earth and nature, creating a cosy, relaxing atmosphere typical of the Japandi style.
perfect harmony: when east and west meet.
Casa MS is a successful example of how the Japandi style can be perfectly integrated into the Mediterranean context. The formal essentiality and love of natural materials typical of Japanese design are blended with the warmth and welcome typical of Italian culture, creating a unique and sophisticated space. This project demonstrates how careful renovation and a bold design vision can transform an anonymous seafront flat into a home with character, designed for the well-being of those who live in it and in harmony with the surrounding landscape. An oasis of peace and design that blends Japanese minimalist elegance with warm Mediterranean hospitality.
