Home study: inhabiting the workshop.
The building is located within the new “Parco del Guardengo” subdivision in Chiaravalle in the province of Ancona. Our workshop, our architectural workshop, has been relocated here. The project stems from the need to reinterpret the formal and ideal concept of the old “barn house” in a contemporary key. Through a streamlined, but studied compositional process. Starting from this formal reminiscence, it was possible to realise an original and innovative building, rich in numerous evocative and emotional aspects. maps
There is a return to a more traditional architecture, realising its value and potential, adapted to today's home-studio requirements.
The layout of the house develops from an access at street level. Descending, one passes through a patio-garden that leads directly to the workshop, the work space. Here the environment is characterised by exposed reinforced concrete walls that are perfectly aligned with the style of the furniture and lighting. The residential space is located on the mezzanine floor, which is accessed by a staircase. One finds oneself in front of a very suggestive space, characterised on the roof by glimpses and joints, which are contrasted by the partitions, which are “apparently” misaligned, shifted and rotated, compared to the pure geometry of the building.
It is precisely the elevation on this side that most characterises and impresses the visitor from the outside. A careful study of the elevation is clearly legible. On the horizontal plane, the already mentioned formal citations of the ’barn-house“ are perceived; while on the vertical plane, where the large window in the living area corresponds to an equally large window on the patio below, there is an immediate connection between inside and outside.
In conclusion, although in an underlying sobriety, the intervention unobtrusively suggests a fascinating liveliness in which joints and foreshortenings become to all intents and purposes the guiding lines of the building's architecture.
